This recording came into being when Sydney Radio Station 2SM approached the various recording companies, who had the cream of Australia's artists under contract, with the idea of releasing an historical record of Australian hits, by Australian stars over the years from 1960-1970.

The idea was greeted with great enthusiasm as is evidenced by the list of artists, which reads like a "Who's Who" list of Australian Entertainment World.
