Collection: The Cherbourg Style: Voices and Music

The Cherbourg Style is a distinctive arts movement, emerging from a community shaped by mission life, forced relocation, and First Nations resilience, and carried by singers, storytellers, poets, and artists — including Harold Blair, Maroochy Barambah, Mop and the Dropouts, Vincent Serico, Lionel Fogarty, and Jackie Huggins — whose Cherbourg roots contributed to a unique evolution in Australia’s musical and literary identity.

We acknowledge that this collection includes the names, images, and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have passed.
